The convergence of high-performance computing (HPC), numerical simulation, artificial intelligence and agentic AI is changing scientific computing and the roles within it. Preserving and developing expertise in this rapidly evolving landscape is a matter of scientific and technological sovereignty. Mathematics plays a critical role in designing, understanding and validating scientific tools, and in retaining the ability to assess their capabilities and limitations.

Organised as part of the PEPR NumPEx programme’s participation in the Forum Entreprises & Mathématiques 2026, the “Mathématiques et numérique” round table will bring together research and industry perspectives. It offers an opportunity to connect these transformations with evolving skills, responsibilities and the place of mathematicians in HPC–AI projects, while exploring career prospects for students, doctoral researchers and recent graduates.
